Sawai Madhopur is a city and assembly constituency in Sawai Madhopur District of Rajasthan. It is located about 130 km in the north-eastern part of Jaipur along the rolling hills of Vindhyas and Aravali ranges.

The main economy is dependent on agriculture & animal husbandry. Being the district headquarter, Sawai Madhopur town is the main regional center and is working as a service center for providing services like trade and commerce, transport, commercial and other higher level public facilities for the entire district. Tourism is one of the key economic activities due to the National Park.

Rail Connectivity

Sawai Madhopur Junction is located on the Delhi to Mumbai trunk route. This is by far the best way of reaching the place from Delhi, Jaipur or Kota.

Air Connectivity

Sawai Madhopur has its own Air Strip which is not in use for transport purpose. However, it is used for minister’s campaigns and meetings. Jaipur at 132 km is the nearest airport from Sawai Madhopur.

Vehicles are considered to be the only significant source of air pollution in Sawai Madhopur. There are no major industries located in the city therefore environment of Sawai Madhopur is lean and clean.

Water Supply

Presently both groundwater and surface water are used as sources for Sawai Madhopur town. Water is also lifted from Banas River through one existing intake well .Total production from all these sources is 8 MLD.

Power Supply

A 132 kW sub grid station on Chambal Hydel & Atomic system situated at Kherda village provides electricity to the town.

Climate Condition

The climate of Sawai Madhopur is hot and arid with large variation in temperature. The average temperature variation in summers and winters are:
49o C to 24.94o C and 20o C to 2o C respectively.

Natural Hazards

Sawai Madhopur town lies in low damage risk zone II. The area is less prone to earthquakes and based on evaluation of the available earthquake zone information, it is located on relatively stable geological plains.


Sawai Madhopur is located at latitude 250 -45’ north and longitude 75o 59’ east, at a height of 400 to 600 m above the mean sea level.
